The Nexus Anthology
Raptor’s Crook was the name of the brigade of ten thousand mortal soldiers Scintillating Talon of the Thunderbolt was tasked with leading through the East. There was a sorcerous Warlord by the name of Eternal Dirge, laying waste to cities along the Eastern rim. The rumors say he was gripped by madness and a craving for destruction. Through a number of battles, the Raptor’s Crook took many casualties, and their numbers dwindled til nearly three thousand. A brilliant, daring tactic by Scintillating Talon of the Thunderbolt, the Raptor’s lead Eternal Dirge’s men to the Yellow River during the time of the Yellow River Kings absence, knowing the river goddess Dead Water Running would take the opportunity to destroy any mortal she could reach. Although the Raptor’s Crook took another large loss of a thousand men, Eternal Dirge’s men were decimated, and destroyed. Sadly, he escaped the battle via Sorcery, claiming to return in a thousand years. And so the remnants of the Raptor’s Crook were brought to the city of Hollow to find a Twilight to counter the Dirge’s Sorcery. That was the last any one would see of them for 1600 years.
There are three officers of the Raptor’s Crook. They operate directly under Scintillating Talon of the Thunderbolt. They oversee a number of matters, including but not limited to patrols, uniform and supplies, troop movements and anything too delicate to be passed off to any of the common troops. These officers, who are the only exalts in the Crook other than Talon, Flickering Flame of the Sunlight Mesa, Peerless Heavens, and Vanishing Edge in the Shadows. Flickering Flame and Peerless Heavens, known together as the Firestorm of the Hollow, are terrestrial Exalts, fire and air aspects respectively. Vanishing Edge in the Shadows is a fellow Solar Exalt, and a night caste. The Firestorm being natives of the first age and the city of Old Hollow. Vanishing Edge in the Shadows is a native of Nexus and the recent times, and is the first recruit to the Raptors Crook in 1600 years.
There are four mortal unit leaders in the Raptor’s Crook brigade, each responsible for managing 2500 men.
As the numbers dwindled, this was less necessary but they were competent and Talon had grown fond of them.
Razor-Edged Blade- a relatively young soldier that wants to “fight the good fight” and one day ascend to higher ranks to make his father proud.
Charging Wolf- An older man, career soldier. Gruff and doesn’t allow slack from anyone.
Unspeaking Pain- A mute, young boy with natural talent for swordsmanship. In spite of Talon thinking he is too young, the other soldiers vouch for him. He is a more than capable.
Darting Canyon- Orphaned in the East, nobody knows much of his story. He’s mostly a quiet, brooding man when there’s no battle to be fought.
